After spending a week and a half in Ouray, we left for Cody, WY on January 23rd. We left town pretty late (couldn't help having another lunch at Bombie's), stopped in Ridgway for propane and Montrose for groceries where we stocked up on the great Wal Mart camembert! As a result, we only made it as far as Grand Junction where we spent the night at Wal Mart (of course).

Cody is about 630 miles from Ouray; we took our time and did some sightseeing along the way. We stopped at Dinosaur National Monument. There, we saw the Dinosaur Quarry and tried to befriend the stegosaur (see picture).

Before reaching Rock Springs, WY, we drove by the Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Quite a place! In Rock Springs, we refueled at the local Flying J, and also took our first truck-stop showers (they come free with our very substantial fuel purchases and we are still dry-camping in the bus because of the cold!).

The next day, we stopped in Lander, a pleasant former mining town, home to the sport climbing area "Wild Iris". More slow driving on mountain roads took us through Thermopolis and its huge (but commercial) mineral hot springs. When we finally made it to Cody, it was too late and too dark to drive to the South Fork valley, so we spent the night at the local Wal Mart (would you have guessed?).
